The Suck Creek Factor
There's a second, more local effect that longtime residents already know by feel: the Tennessee River Gorge and the Suck Creek corridor act like a funnel. When a front pushes through the gorge, wind that would otherwise disperse gets channeled and accelerated along that gap, hitting the western face of the mountain and the homes above Suck Creek Road harder than you'd expect from the regional forecast. It's the same reason locals talk about "gorge wind" as its own category of weather.
What This Means When We're Actually on Your Roof
